Elizabeth is better known to her friends as Betty. She was born, in Tillsonburg Ontario, to Alex and Elizabeth Nemeth, tobacco farmers and has one brother, Alex. She married Mike Petis in Hamilton, has three children Patricia Lynn, Julie and Michael Jr. Home is Stoney Creek
Betty grew up in Delhi, Ontario and graduated from Delhi High School. After entering sketches to the Norfolk County Fair she won first and second prizes. She entered four drawings to an art school and was accepted. She ended up choosing Nursing instead of art school as a career, and graduated from the Hamilton General School of Nursing as a RN. Her nursing career was vast including working in Emergency, New born nursery, Labour and delivery and Cardiology. She is currently the co-owner of two home based marketing businesses, adding to Betty's numerous enterprises. She chose to accept an early retirement during the hospitals downsizing which allowed her to seriously focus on her studies at Mohawk College, where she graduated in October, 2000 in Plastic and Fine Arts Level IV.
Paper tole shows her talent in depth perception, contouring feathering and sense of form. Oil painting displays her love of nature and landscapes with captivating detail. Betty paints on treated Masonite and canvas. Rosemaling is mainly used for detailing and enhancing. Her European background gives her an appreciation for this flowery art. She also has had the privilege, a number of times, of being privately commissioned to paint as well. Her paintings were part of juried shows at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Redeemer University, also Stoney Creek Spring Blossom Art Tour, Unity Art show and Hamilton City Hall, Sunrise Gallery & Grimsby Library. She is a member of The Art Gallery of Hamilton, Arts Hamilton, Lakeside Pumphouse Artists Association, Fort Erie Arts Council., Sunrise Gallery, Community Artists Niagara & VP of Women’s Art Association of Hamilton.
Betty's philosophy is to use her talent of painting to transform scenes from travels, photos and her imagination as a lasting gift to family, friends and viewers.
